6月6日，菲亚特克莱斯勒发表官方声明，称公司董事会在董事长约翰·艾尔坎的主持下召开会议，决定立即撤回其向雷诺集团做出的合并提议。

菲克集团表示，这一自递交以来便广受赞誉的提议具有令人信服的、变革性的理论基础，该提议的结构和条款均经过精心的平衡，从而为各方带来实质性的效益。然而，显然，这一合并成功推进的政治条件目前在法国并不存在。
菲克集团表示，将继续通过实施其独立战略以践行其承诺。同时也对雷诺–日产-三菱汽车联盟表示了感谢。
菲克与雷诺的合并以失败告终
当地时间5月26日，路透社援引两名知情人士的话称，菲克集团和雷诺集团这两家全球十大汽车集团可能很快成为合作伙伴，弥补各自短板，应对全球汽车行业面临的结构性挑战。
5月27日，菲克集团确认了这一消息，向雷诺集团董事会递交了一份无约束力的函件，提议将各自公司以50:50的比例进行合并。
然而，由于法国政府持有雷诺集团15%的股份，是该集团最大股东。而法国政府也一直在操纵雷诺集团对雷诺-日产-三菱联盟加强控制。在前董事长戈恩被捕后，法国政府一直鼓动雷诺集团对日产实施合并。据《日本经济新闻》报道，法国政府提议对雷诺汽车和日产汽车进行结构整合，将这两家汽车制造商置于一家单一的控股公司旗下。这或许正是菲克集团在合并时所担忧的“政治条件”。
