今年7月1日，多地将正式实施国六排放标准，多数车企都将面临车型动力切换的压力。雷克萨斯也面临同样的问题，旗下主力车型ES目前仅有混动版满足国六排放标准，2.0L车型仍仅满足国五标准，且部分经销商已经暂停接受2.0L车型的订单。网上车市从雷克萨斯经销商处获悉，雷克萨斯即将推出新款ES，除了配置小幅升级外，ES200还会搭载全新的2.0L发动机，在动力提升的同时，还能满足国六排放标准，预计在7月后正式排产，大多数用户预计在第四季度能够提车。
雷克萨斯新款ES将会对整个车系的配置进行提升，包括升级雷克萨斯智能安全系统LSS+（自适应巡航控制系统ACC、智能车道循迹系统LTA）以及增加智能雷达待辅助刹车功能ICS，主要针对安全系统进行调整。但部分车主所期待的百度CarLife等智能车载系统，还是并未出现在新款ES上。
新车最主要的变化在于，ES200（2.0L车型）更换了全新2.0L发动机，预计与2019款凯美瑞相同，最大功率和峰值扭矩分别上升到131kW、210N.m，满足国六排放标准。此外，ES200传动系统由现款的6AT升级为丰田最新的Direct Shift-CVT，能与TNGA 2.0L发动机更好的匹配。新CVT变速箱解决了目前市面上CVT变速器普遍存在的，在起步时所产生的瞬间动力反应迟滞的问题，提升了驾驶感受，同时也减小了钢带工作负荷。
