8月1日，浙江金华高速交警巡逻时发现了一件让人哭笑不得的事：一辆打开引擎盖的轿车停在路边，地上还散落着一地碎西瓜，驾驶员杨某称，汽车突然自燃，情急之下将车上的两个西瓜拿出来砸在着火部位，才将火扑灭。
据悉，事发这天，杨某在驾车过程中发现车辆有异响，于是他将车辆靠边停下，并将引擎盖打开来进行检查。眼前的一幕让杨某有些惊慌，车里起火了！这可咋办？这个地方前不着村后不着店，车里又没有灭火器，如果任由火势继续蔓延，后果将不堪设想。
情急之下，杨某灵机一动，车上虽然没有灭火器，但正好有两个西瓜，于是他举起西瓜砸向车的起火点，成功地把火灭掉了。经过民警一番检查，确认此次起火应该是油路或者电路老化，在高温下引发的自燃，所幸杨某采取措施及时，这才有造成严重的后果。
网友们调侃到，“西瓜祛火这个功效是坐实了。出门旅行，必备良品。起火灭火，上火败火。”“反应够快，砸得稳准狠，佩服！”“神操作，交警都懵了。”“论夏天买西瓜的第n个用处。”不过调侃归调侃，车上应按照要求配备合规的灭火器，给出行安全多一层保障。
