目前特斯拉在新能源市场上最大的敌人就是产能，由于产能受限特斯拉积压大量订单，导致资金无法回笼，资金链长期在崩溃边缘徘徊，不过随着埃隆马斯克不断努力，特斯拉周产能已超过8000台，对于大量正在等待的车主来说是一件好消息。
得益于产能提升，特斯拉在2018年第三季度营收同达到68.24亿美元，远高于前年同期的29.85亿美元，为其创造净利润3.12亿美元，运营收入4.17亿美元，这使得特斯拉实现了2010年上市以来的第三次单季度盈利，距离上次单季度盈利，已经过去整整两年时间。
随着产能提高也让特斯拉陷入另一个困境，车辆的交付和服务保障已经成为新的挑战，随着车主基数不断扩大，销量覆盖地区越来越广，特斯拉已经在全球开设351个销售和服务网点，新开了44个超级充电站，总数达到了 1352 个，如何保障售后服务成为埃隆马斯克继续解决的问题。
即便特斯拉周产能达到8000台，它的前景依旧不是那么乐观，虽然2018年第三季度盈利了，但对于长期亏损的特斯拉来说，这点钱无疑于九牛一毛，其次开辟新的生产线、在中国投资工厂都需要大量资金，这笔钱都是贷款而来，特斯拉的资金压力依旧巨大。
为降低运营成本，特斯拉进行裁员9%约4000人受到了影响，虽然号称产能方面不会受到影响，但其在提高产能的过程中，还是出现了员工不足的问题，根据特斯拉加州弗里蒙特工厂3名员工的透露报道称，从Model X和Model S生产线借调了员工，未来特斯拉产能继续提升，员工不足这一问题将会被逐渐放大。
