车的外表脏了大家都知道洗车，不然不美观，对车漆也会有腐蚀。而发动机舱也会脏，空气中的灰尘通过中网和发动机下方的空间进入到发动机舱，附着在机舱各个部件表面。如果发动机有油气渗漏，也附着在各部件表面，那更加容易沾上灰尘，用不了多久就会看起来很脏。当然只要不打开机盖谁也看不到，不影响美观，是否会影响发动机散热及其他功能呢？需要定期清洗吗？
如果发动机表面只是附着了灰尘，没有油液泄露，是不需要定期清洗的，对发动机的各项性能没有任何影响，只是自己看起来不美观而已。实在感觉脏可以用抹布擦拭一下，或者到维修厂用气枪吹一下。其实每次保养的时候，维修技师都会给清洁一下发动机舱，因此平时也就不必去管它了。
如果发动机有密封件密封不严，有油液渗漏，机舱中的油气会比较大，机舱会特别脏，特别是渗油部件的周围。这种情况定期清洗是有必要的，重点要清洗线路和橡胶管路。因为有油泥附着在上面，对其会有一定的腐蚀性，加速线路和橡胶的老化。所以机舱油泥过多，不只是要清洗，还要及时对渗油部件进行维修，没有了油气也就不会有油泥。很多车型都是气门室盖垫会渗漏，更换价格也不贵。不及时更换还有可能会渗漏到火花塞处，影响火花塞工作。
发动机表面油泥比较多时，简单的用抹布擦就起不了太大作用了，可以直接用水枪冲洗，再简单刷一下。或者到美容店做一下专门的发动机清洗，在4S店可以做一下线路养护，其实就是清洗发动机。自己清洗可以购买专门的发动机泡沫清洗液，喷到发动机上，然后用小刷子反复刷，最后用水冲洗，也能洗的很干净。
用水冲洗时要注意，发动机不能太热，不能刚停下车立即冲洗。要凉一会儿，感觉发动机不太烫了就可以冲洗了。一些很大的插头和保险丝盒不要用水直接冲，即使插头有防水密封圈，水压太高也能进入到里面。曾经就有多次因为冲洗发动机舱而打不着火的案例，就是因为某些插头进水了。所以如果自己清洗完毕，有压缩气体要用气枪吹干，没有的话最好打着火多运转一会儿，让发动机的热量把水彻底烘干。
