最近两年，大众在中国市场开启了SUV车海战术，大量不同级别的SUV车型密集上市，而入门级的T-CROSS更是将采用双胞胎策略同时落地上汽大众和一汽-大众。上汽大众版本的进度显然快了不少，与欧版同步发布，但采用加长轴距设定，前脸则和最近上市的途岳一样，延续途昂的硬派风格设计。量产车型有望在4月下旬的上海车展正式上市。相比之下，一汽-大众版本就神秘多了，哪种外观？是否加长？何时上市？目前都不明确，甚至测试车都还从未被捕获。
从市场格局来看，日产劲客走经济型路线，整体定价会更低一些；别克昂科拉因为标配1.4T动力，入门门槛则要更高；本田缤智将成为其最主要的竞争对手，不过后者在车身块头上更占优势。而缤智和昂科拉顶配版本都配置了四驱系统，因此天花板价格也会比T-CROSS更高。不过T-CROSS最大优势就是有着大众的品牌力加持。
再看大众品牌自身体系，T-CROSS和同样即将上市的全新POLO都是出自大众MQB A0平台。实际上T-CROSS就是POLO的SUV版本，海外版本轴距同为2654mm，只是国产后，一个选择原版引进，一个选择轴距加长88mm，因此在车身长度和轴距方面都拉开了明显差异。定价、定位同样如此，T-CROSS的高配版还带有全液晶仪表，全景天窗配置，与外观颜色呼应的双色内饰搭配。
而在大众SUV阵列中，排在入门级T-CROSS之上的就是一汽-大众的T-ROC探歌车型，后者也在海外版基础上对轴距加长了77mm。因此并没有打乱原本的梯级产品排布，而T-ROC的定位明显更高，除了入门级版本之外，其余车型都采用了多连杆独立后悬架，另外高配版还带有四驱系统。动力配置方面，除了与T-CROSS相同的110kW高功率1.4T发动机，还另外提供1.2T和低功率1.4T两款发动机，因此其整体定价对T-CROSS很有参考意义。
入门级的T-CROSS上市之后，加上途岳、途观、途观L和途昂、以及下半年的途昂Coupe，上汽大众将完成多达6款车型的SUV车型梯级排布。T-CROSS对桑塔纳这种前后排腿部空间相当的A—级车型会有一定的消费分流能力，而且大众品牌在中国的号召力，将其SUV消费门槛进一步拉低后，要想获得成功，并不是什么难事。
