随着生活水平的提高，私家车的数量呈上升趋势，对于汽车来说，车主最关心的莫过于发动机了，发动机的好坏也是直接影响了车辆的整体性能，怎样才能辨别发动机的好坏呢？
针对于汽车发动机的好坏，外行的只是会看汽车的参数，但是对于很多懂车的人来说，低头看看汽车的排气管就知道了。汽车的排气管是装在车子的尾部，是专门用来排出燃油燃烧后的尾气的，这个部件很重要，可是要怎么通过排气管看发动机性能，很多人还是不清楚的，其实我们是看它滴水的情况。
排气管排出气体的状态好坏，也就代表了发动机在燃烧时状态的好坏，而排气管滴水的现象就是发动机的燃烧比较完全的表现，没有过多的黑色气体的排放，能够说明发动机的性能还是比较不错的，很多人都是用这招判断车辆性能的好坏。
原因其实很简单，在发动机工作的时候，正常的状态下，排放出的物质主要是水蒸气和二氧化碳，如果发动机的密封性比较好的话，在气体燃烧的过程中，高温的水蒸气在脱离了发动机，进入到到排气管后就会由气体变成液体，从而就形成了水滴，这就是我们看到的排气管出现滴水现象。
排气管要是冒黑烟了，是因为燃油燃烧不足了才会冒黑烟，需要定时清理积碳，如果又是冒黑烟又是有烧焦的味道，那可能是发动机烧机油了，如果是冒白烟的话，是汽油或者气缸里面有水分了。
如果排气管不滴水的话，有可能是燃料燃烧得不完全，也有可能是发动机的密闭性不太好，这些原因就会减少排气管有滴水的现象发生；还有一种情况就是水滴过多，冷却水进入到燃烧室的话，就会增加尾气中的水分含量，排气管滴水过多的话，不仅会影响排气管中的传感器的工作，对于排气管也会有一定的腐蚀作用，这种情况也是不好的。
