高尔夫6 GTi作为一款好玩的小车，改装热度一直高企，但是随着高尔夫7的面世，各大改装厂的改装焦点慢慢转移到它的身上，长江后浪推前浪，6代高尔夫也不得不退居二线了。
大众御用改装品牌ABT在2012年的欧洲顶级改装车盛会–埃森车展（Essen Motor Show）上展出了其为高6 GTi推出的终极版的改装升级方案。这预示着代表官方对高尔夫6 GTI改装正式尘埃落定。

在埃森车展ABT展台上，高尔夫6 GTI展车名为ABT Golf VI GTI Last Edition，该车的改装也一如我们熟知的手法一样分为几个阶段，一阶的改装通过重新刷写电脑程序，使GTi的2.0T心脏变得更为强大，马力输出从208匹（155KW）上扬至256匹（191KW）。二阶改装的玩法更为激进，为GTi增加再一个涡轮增压器，收获的是马力输出直指306匹的效果。

ABT为第六代高尔夫GTi开发一套运动避震，换装避震后车身高度得到25mm的降低，车身降低后重心更低，对GTi的操控性能有了非常正面的提升。同时，在二阶的改装中因为马力的提升较大，因而ABT也为六代高尔夫GTi更换了直径达345mm的更大的刹车碟以对应强横的动力。

除了动力的提升，外观当然也不能流于平庸，空力套件的加装使得外观更具动感。包括带LED日行灯的前包围，使得正面更为精神，而下探的头唇，流畅线条的侧裙侧更显出这个最终版的煞气腾腾。尾翼，后下扰流对尾部除了有观感更好的修饰外，更好的是处理流过车身的乱流，提供下压力，增加高速行驶的稳定性等等。而四出排气系统则更显这个Last Edition的霸气。此外铝合金轮圈和红色飞溅式车身拉花则为车身作更好的点缀。
